N2  - The Latino population provides a new and complex task for professionals in addiction counseling. Latinos can no longer be classified as Mexican American, Puerto Rican, and Cuban. Over the past 20 years, the demographics have changed tremendously.  The changing trend demands that substance abuse and addiction treatment method include a multi-ethnic and multi-racial perspective. Simply focusing on locality and region is no longer acceptable or effective. Clinicians must study and remain current on contemporary demographic growth, culture, cultural competency, and the accompanying treatment methods being used.
